Description
Vintage 1948 Amoco fold-out road map of New York, printed more than 72 years ago.The map opens to a generous 27" x 26" and has great detail on old highway alignments in the Empire State, with cartography by Rand McNally.
There's an illustration of pavement markings and an inset plan of lower New York and Long Island, including Peekskill, Yonkers, Hicksville, Patchogue, and East Hampton.
On the reverse side there's a highway map of the United States and an inset of the New York City metropolitan area, including Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx.
The map was distributed by the American Oil Company in 1948 to promote its Amoco brand, and it is dated by the code number in the lower margin: 8-4600V-2. Population data is from the 1940 census.
On the back cover there is an illustration of a can of Permalube motor oil.
Condition:
This map is in good, lightly used condition. The paper has softened, and there are small breaks on a couple of the folds. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.
