Description
Offered is an antique Al-Vista panoramic camera, model 5D, made between 1900 and 1908 in Burlington, Wisconsin USA. This model takes 5" tall roll film, and can be set to make pictures from 6" wide to 16" wide. The lens is driven by clockwork and swings from one side of the film to the other, exposing your subject through a moving slit. Four "fans" are included; they control the speed at which the lens swings via air resistance (the bigger the fan, the slower the lens swings). Two waterhouse stops are included to preset the lens opening. You preset the length of film you wish to expose.Condition: The wood camera body is intact with no noted cracks. The leather cover is all there and clean. The chamois that seals the area around the lens and allows it to swing, is intact and very supple. The clockwork runs smoothly, and the speed varies visibly when the fans are changed from small to large. The lens is clear.
I believe that if you can find the correct size film (or adapt it to shoot 116 film which is available from The Film Photography Project Store online) you can shoot with this camera.
You will need a lens cap to cover the lens between photos when you advance the film, as this model of the Al-Vista does not have a dark slide. If I can find one of the correct size, I'll include it.
This camera measures 12.75" wide by 7" deep by 6.25" tall. It weighs 5.5 pounds.
Sold exactly as shown: Camera, (1) empty film spool, (all 5) fans, (2) waterhouse stops - small metal plates, (2) wooden stoppers to hold the film flat on its supply and takeup rolls, a pdf of the manual for a similar model camera, and a sample photo.
Payment is due at time of purchase. We ship 1 business day after your funds clear, and on the same day when possible. Ships from US zip code 30512.
