    Description

For your consideration I offer a complete set of the 3 commemorative belt buckle and matching hat pin sets which the American Motorcycle  Association offered beginning in October of 1986. The belt buckles in the set photographed each bear the serial number 985.  The hat pins are not numbered.  All of the belt buckles were manufactured by the Bergamot Fine Art Foundry of Delavan, Wisconsin.  Each is made of pewter with what appears to be brass or bronze embellishments.  All are brand new, come in their original black presentation cases and have never been taken out of their presentation cases except to be inspected when I first bought them from the AMA and then again when I photographed them for this listing. The pins appear to be brass or bronze as well.  The Liberty Pin has a small rhinestone (I hope it is not a diamond as I priced it as a rhinestone) on the lower right hand side.  The buckles are each 3" wide.  The Liberty and Dodge City buckles are each 2 3/8" high and the Golden Gate Buckle is 2 1/4" high.  The buckles weigh between 8 and 11 ounces each which has caused some wear on the box insert which holds each buckle in place.
The Liberty Buckle is #985 of 1,000 made.  The Liberty Hat Pin bears no edition number.  It measures 7/8" by 7/8" (the photograph was enlarged to show all the detail).  This buckle and pin set was made in October of 1986 and commemorates both the centennial of the October 18, 1886 dedication of the Statue of Liberty as well as the July 3, 1986 unveiling of the restoration of this landmark gift from the French people.
The Golden Gate Bridge Buckle is #985 of 1,200 made.  The Golden Gate Hat Pin also bears no edition number.  It measures 3/4" wide and 1" tall.  This buckle and pin set was made to commemorate the 1987 Fiftieth anniversary of the May 27, 1937 opening of the Golden Gate Bridge. Hap Jones' image is cast on the front of this buckle to commemorate the fact that he was the first motorcyclist to transverse the bridge on opening day and then 50 years later crossed it again by motorcycle during the anniversary celebration.
The Dodge City 300 Buckle is also #985 of 1,200 made.  The Dodge City 300 Hat Pin again bears no edition number.  It measures 7/8" by 7/8".  This buckle and pin set was made to commemorate perhaps the most famous dirt track motorcycle race in American history.  It began in 1914 on a 2 mile long dirt track just outside of Dodge City Kansas and continued through 1956 (albeit in a version reportedly shortened to 200 miles in its later years).  After the track was washed out by a flood in 1956 the race was never run again.  However, a Dodge City 300
organization was formed which planned and held a 100
    th
anniversary celebration of this famous race on July 1-6, 2014.
