ANTIQUE DETROIT MICHIGAN CENTRAL STATION DEPOT BRASS BRONZE LIGHT FIXTURE - 1912
    ITEM DESCRIPTION :
Hello and thank you for expressing an interest in my auction. I am offering for your consideration the following. This is an all original 109 year old solid brass ceiling light fixture that I salvaged from Detroit's last remaining train station "
    The 1912 Michigan Central Station
".  I had purchased the salvage rites back in 1990 for the removal of the last of the remaining artifacts from the then private owner of the building. This style of ceiling light is "
    Very Semi Attractive
" in it's simplistic style and design.  This ceiling fixture is what was installed in 1912 and were very abundant through out the entire building from the basement to the top floor. There were roughly 10,000 to 15,000 of these ceiling lights installed through the entire building. There were two sizes for the ceiling fixture Large and Small, the larger ones had a taller brass fitter and were used in all of the office space areas where the employees worked. While the small ones had a short brass fitter, they were installed in the short joining hallways from office to office and in all the walk in closets and storage rooms.  However during the transition of the vacant property from the previous private owner to the next during 1989 to 1990 the street thieves had broken into the building and stolen mostly all of the solid brass light fixtures. Of the roughly 10,000 to 15,000 that were installed I was only able to acquire the last 26 most of which I had sold back in the 1990's.  I just happen to have found a few in my storage and decided to place them on ebay. Many people can't afford some of the more expensive items I have sold through the years, so I am offering some smaller more affordable artifacts, as many customers have been emailing and requesting.  Despite it being a single fixture it still has that special passionate attribute that only Detroiter's can feel when reminiscing about the old days when Detroit's train station was in it's "
    Stately Manner of Treasured Grandeur
". Sure, they are restoring the old station, "
    BUT
" over 95% of the replaced interior architectural artifacts are all reproduction made to look old and will "
    NOT
" have the same authentic grandeur.
    ITEM CONDITION :
The over all condition of this light fixture is "
    Exceptional Condition
" with no damage or repairs. When I had acquired it - it was covered in several coats of really tough industrial enamel paint. Once I stripped off the paint the brass fitter was a dark brownish black covered with years of tarnish, grime, dirt, and filth.
I had completely disassembled it and semi polished each piece
    to a nice luster yellow brass finish, it can be polished on a buffing wheel which makes the brass fitter shine like a mirror.  This light fixture is all 100% complete and all original {
    Ex
    cept it is missing
    #1
of the small finger screws to hold the shade in the fitter. It had 3, but this fixture only has 2 }, but it still holds the shade very securely and replacement thumb screws are all over ebay or a local hardware store.  It will need to be rewired "
Please view picture of socket top
" if you plan on installing it for home use. Because the street thieves stole all of these lights for the brass value they broke almost all of the original two sided white glass shades, but I happen to have salvaged the original shades to. This shade is 2 sided by color and texture. The outer side is glossy white glass with the inside have a thin layer of satin finish white glass applied to the outer shell.  The very edges of the rim have a few very "
    tiny
    " sporadic flea bites due to light bulb changing over the many decades of use. {
Please view the 1920's picture posted that show these fixtures installed on the ceiling, as I stated there were two sizes and this one is the small.
Notice the style of the shade to substantiate the authenticity of origin
    .
That picture shows the offices for

    Station in Detroit.
} which is perfect size for any room to use or for display. I have had people buy these and set them on the brass base with the glass shade pointing upward and used it just as a display piece and not as a working fixture.
    The
measurements for this light are as follows.....Glass shade
    4 -1/2
    inches tall,
    6
inches wide on the bottom edge to edge, with the common
    2 -1/4
inch top open. The brass fitter is
    3 -1/2
    inches tall and
    4 -1/2
inches wide on the top that mounts to the ceiling. The over all height is
    7 -1/4
    inches tall,
    6
inches wide at tip of shade,  just a perfect size.
    Ov
er all this is a great souvenir artifact from a once mighty great train station.  If you should have any questions please feel free to email me. Thank you.
