    Description

Up for sale is a General Douglas MacArthur window Flag / Banner. In early 1942, after the Japanese invaded and conquered Corregidor Island in the Philippines, where MacArthur’s small, beaten down army holed up and then surrendered, MacArthur was ordered to be evacuated by President Roosevelt, lest he fall into the hands of the Japanese. This banner flag is a remnant from a wave of national sympathy for MacArthur that pervaded the country at that time.
It is also a strong possibility that this piece could also be from April 26, 1951, when MacArthur returned to the USA after 14 years on Foreign soil after President Truman removed him from command during the Korean Conflict. Over 3 million people lined the streets of Chicago to honor him during his visit to the city.
In the last 20 years, I have only seen, and dealt (sold) 2 of these (not counting this one) but they were both the larger 10 x14 version. Finding one of these at all is nearly impossible now, but this is the first 8” x 11” version I have ever seen – and probably ever will see, IT’S INCREDIBLY RARE. Being a Mac fan myself, I bought it off a military collector who had refused to sell it to me, until I just about wore him out after two hours, and trading some Flying Tigers items to him.
It’s in incredibly good condition, with no major issues, at all. All of the paint is crisp, and overall I would rate this an 8 out of 10. It is being sold As-Is, and the flat rate shipping rate shown applies only to the lower 48 states – the continental US.
