Description
Up for sale is a Tektronix TDS3054 500 MHz 5GS/s 4 Channel DSO with 5447 power-on hours.Note: this scope is upgraded from a TDS3014. Please read and understand below in red for details.
This scope has been made into a 500MHz 5GSa/s TDS3054 from a TDS3014. It will report itself as a TDS3054 and meet Tektronix specification for vertical amplitude @ 500MHz as well. Shown in picture #3 is CH1 with a 600mV RMS sine-wave @ 500MHz to test the -3dB point, and sampling at 5GS/s. The signal must be at least 424mV @ 500MHz. This particular channel reads 457mV. All four channels exceed specification for a 500MHz TDS3054. It will also sample at up to 5GS/s real-time.
In picture #4, a 30pS rise-time pulse was applied to CH1 to test the rise-time and step response.
Note that the badging/sticker on the rear panel stating TDS3014 will not change!
This unit has a brand new battery for the Dallas DS1742W NVRAM.
The embedded battery in the Dallas NVRAM in this scope was at the point where the TOD clock would stop when powered off, and saved setups were lost. I've modified it and connected an external battery holder to the chip with a brand new CR-2032 battery so you'll be good to go for 10+ years. The holder is attached with 3M Very High Bond (VHB) tape. The original contents were saved off first, the chip was reworked, and then the original contents were programmed back into the chip. (See picture 6 for details)
This chip is a 3.3VDC Dallas DS1742W which is now obsolete and can no longer be purchased from reputable distributors. Most of what you can find of these chips on Ebay are likely already dead, counterfeits, or re-marks with a new date code. Eventually, (after the clock stops running) the battery will drain down completely, and you'll lose your setups and references. You will also lose your MAC address if you have a network interface plug-in, and it will not work with Ethernet ever again unless repaired. At some point, it may stop booting altogether. The original battery was specified for 10 years; a BR1632 which is rated at 120mAh. I have found that they last close to 20 years.
If you ever need to replace the battery (and it will be a long time as the replacement CR2032 battery has double the capacity @ 225mAh), do it while the scope is powered up to avoid the above!
The scope passes all of its extended self tests from the utility menu and calibration routines including signal path compensation (SPC, more than 20 times to be sure), and is working perfectly on all 4 channels. Vertical bandwidth (-3dB point ) tested good out to 500MHz on all 4 channels. The probe interface was tested with a P6243 FET probe. Floppy drive is tested and working.
There are no accessories or probes included with this scope.
Returns accepted only if the tamper seal on the rear cover (which will be installed on final QC/test before shipping) is intact. I will only ship to verified addresses in the continental United States.
