Zeiss Ikon Baby Box 35mm SLR a)Manufactured by: Ihagee in Dresden, 1951-53 1.Model: VX (Varex) Serial Number: 719914 Horizontal, cloth, focal-plane shutter. 1.This SLR has a mirror, which stays up after exposure, has a bayonet lens mount, and, has paired flash sync sockets (M, X). 1.The film winder is a left-hand long-stroke curved lever, with right-to-left film transport, & the shutter release is the left, front side. 1.The body is leather lined & it is well balanced, making it a comfortable camera to handle. 1.The removable eye level prism view finder with a changeable focusing screen has a brilliant circular split-focus at the center. Serial number: 35059 1.The camera’s back is hinged & it is detachable. 1.The interior is in good clean condition. 1.On the left is the high speed shutter knob: B, T, 1/25, 1/50, 1/250, 1/500 & 1/1000 sec. On the right, is the slow speed shutter knob: 1/5, ½, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, & 12 sec., and the delay timer: 1/5, 3/4, 1-1/2, 2, 3, 5, 6 sec. Film speed reminder "Weston/ASA" is engraved on the top plate, below the slow speed dial. 1.Lens Brand: Carl Zeiss Jena Model: Biotar f/2, 58 mm Serial Number: 3400929 Aperture f stops: 2, 4, 5.6, 8, 11, 16, 22 A very Classic Zeiss Ikon Baby Box a)Also known as the “Baby Box Tengor,” 1934-1938 1.This type of box camera was originally produced by Goerz, in Germany as the Box Tengor between 1924-26. After the merger of ICA, Contessa-Nettel and Ernemann to form Zeiss Ikon, this model was made as the Zeiss Ikon Baby Box, from 1934-38. Many versions were made with different shutters and different focusing lenses. This camera was designed to take 16 pictures on 127 film, each 3 x 4 cm (~1¼” x 1½”). This is a fixed focus camera f/11 and single speed shutter 1/25 & B. 1.The camera has a simple finder. The back eyepiece flips up & the frame finder pulls up out of the top. 1.It has a fixed aperture and fixed focus Goerz Frontar lens set at f/11. From 1934, on a decorative hexagon metal plate surrounds the lens, with the Zeiss Ikon logo on top & “BABY BOX” name on the bottom. 1.The camera is equipped with a simple self-cocking single speed shutter, 1/25 sec. plus B. The shutter is set with a pullout lever above the release & will operate only when the wire frame finder is pulled out. 1.The back of the camera detaches for easy film loading. 1.The interior is clean with minor rust & minor scratches. 1.The shutter operates (not professionally tested) and the lens is crystal clear. The camera is in great condition, with minor rubbing to the exterior leather and around the lens frame plate. Minor rusting is visible around the film winder & some interior edges. 1.A serial number “2114” is painted inside. 1.This cute, good condition camera is an excellent showpiece addition to an early Zeiss Ikon camera collection or any box camera collection. The shutter operates (not professionally tested) and the lens is crystal clear. The camera is in great condition, with minor rubbing to the exterior leather and around the lens frame plate. Minor rusting is visible around the film winder & some interior edges. A great functional showpiece camera.
